Middle School Teacher’s Assistant – Home & School Hybrid (PT)

POSITION SUMMARY

Provide support to the lead teacher by assisting in classroom activities and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment for students. The Aide actively engages in NorthPointe Christian’s mission of “Equipping students to impact their world for Jesus Christ.”

This is a part-time position for the 2024-2025 school year.

EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the School’s Foundational Statements and mission through word and deed.
  • Integrate Biblical principles and Scripture into daily activities.
  • Minister to students through prayer, encouragement, and wise counsel.
  • Follow safety protocols for where students can be and how to secure the building.
  • Professionally represents the school in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Remain professional in attire and behavior.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all matters pertaining to students, employees, and donors as outlined in NPC’s Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Be timely in reporting to work and when at work.
  • Carry out the procedures and protocols in the employee handbook and respect decisions made by leadership.
  • Maintain open communication with leadership regarding questions, concerns, and needs.
  • As a representative of the school, all written and verbal interactions with parents/guardians, co-workers, and the community must be professional and reflect the school positively. This includes one’s appearance, the content of the communication, and presentation of it.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Support Teaching Duties 

  • Prepare, teach, assign, and grade Bible curriculum lessons & activities
  • Prepare, teach, assign, and grade 6th, 7th and/or 8th grade math groups
  • Work with individual students or groups of students on instructional activities as needed
  • Provide instructional assistance to students needing additional help
  • Mentor student companies during Marketplace 
  • Communicate clearly and regularly with teacher regarding student performance
  • Lead a Middle School Small Group twice a month

 Non-Teaching Duties

  • Record daily attendance 
  • Grade daily assignments
  • Examine online assessments for automatic-correction accuracy
  • Assist with the preparation and organization of instructional materials
  • Assist teacher with other clerical duties as needed
  • Monitor student behavior to support a positive and respectful learning environment 
  • Assist in the orderly arrival and dismissal of students
  • Monitor student passage between subjects
  • Escort students to chapel and lunch
  • Help maintain a clean and orderly learning environment
  • Lead physical activities with students

 Other Expectations

  • Attend in-service activities during staff week in August
  • Assist teacher and students throughout Marketplace Day and during both the afternoon and evening events 
  • Participate in Middle School Hybrid team meetings

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Active Christian in agreement with and willing to sign the NorthPointe Christian School’s Foundational statements.
  • Able to pass required background checks and fingerprint screening.
  • Valid Teaching Certificate or willingness to obtain certification within 1 year.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, minimum.
  • Adapt classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans.
  • Be equipped to use a 1:1 MacBook system, well-versed in differentiated instruction and project-based learning. 
  • Exhibit the verbal ability to understand meaning of words, the ideas associated with them, and the ability to convey them to others clearly using oral expression and comprehension.
  • Desire to nurture and come alongside middle school students to encourage spiritual, academic, and social success.
  • Successfully work with a variety of students, individually and in small groups.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing schedules and activities.
  • Multi-tasking abilities amid distractions and noise. 
  • Attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physically able to:
    • Frequently stand and sit for extended periods of time.
    • Frequently use manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate equipment, and move around the classroom.
    • On occasion, engage with students while kneeling, squatting, stooping, or bending 50-70 degrees at the waist.
    • Perform daily repetitive movement of fingers and hands when writing and typing.
    • Read printed and electronic material daily. See with clarity objects using close, distant, and peripheral vision.
    • Sufficiently hear conversations in person and distinguish sounds clearly up to 20 feet.
  • Must be able to maintain continuous safety of the students and respond quickly and appropriately to any threat toward their well-being.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a standard classroom, office, or gathering space. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
